A medical pressure gauge, also known as a sphygmomanometer, is a device used to measure blood pressure. It consists of an inflatable cuff that is wrapped around the upper arm or wrist and a pressure gauge that displays the pressure reading. The cuff is inflated to temporarily stop the flow of blood in the arteries, and then slowly released while the gauge measures the pressure at which the blood starts to flow again. This pressure reading is expressed as two numbers: systolic pressure (the higher number) and diastolic pressure (the lower number). Medical pressure gauges are commonly used in healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and doctor's offices, to monitor and diagnose conditions related to blood pressure, such as hypertension or hypotension.
